Inventor
We used Inventor to create a phone holder. Inventor is a software that is used to sketch and design. You can create designs in a 2D or 3D models. You can layer the designs to make a more complex shape. There are many tools that help create these models such as the dimension tool, line tool and rectangle tool. these tools help you create and measure your design.
Research
I researched for my phone holder. I decided between design . I used the size of my phone to make the design.
Step-By-Step
My first sketch was the outline of my phone holder. I used the line tool to create this. I extruded this sketch by 4 inches to fit my phone in it.
My second sketch was to create the hole for my charging cord. I made sure in this sketch was centered on my design and would fit the cord. When I extruded I just made sure the hole went all the way through.
I created another sketch with a rectangle on the front. This is to help hold the phone in, so it doesn't fall out the sides if I use it in the car. I made sure the measurements fit my phone then extruded a fourth of an inch.
My fourth sketch had no purpose but to make my stand look better. I created a trapezoid that fit inside the holder and extruded inward all the way through.
My last sketch was just a bard to separate the hole. I used the line tool to create the shape and extruded inward all the way through.
Makerbot
I scaled up my design by 1000% to get the correct dimensions. I rotated my design to fit the printing area the best. Then, I clicked the Lay Flat button.
I made sure the print settings were correct. Then, clicked Export Print File. I named the File on my flash drive, and hit Print Preview. This is my print preview.
Printing
This is a picture of my design being printed.
This is my final phone holder. The second picture is showing the charging cord going inside of the phone holder.
This project really challenged my creativity and math. There was a lot of using the measurements and doing simple math to make the phone holder fit. This project was really fun!
